A Quick Home-made Firecracker
Since it’s near the 4th of July, I thought I’d post a safe (as safe as any other firecracker) way to get a nice big bang out of $5. Read on for instructions and photos.
First, the materials. You will need to buy a “Saturn Missile Battery” or similar firework (costs anywhere from $2-$5). You will also need scissors, tape, and eye safety is recommended.
Note: I take NO RESPONSIBILITY for any harm or damage caused by this.
Start by pulling each missile out of the firework. I will explain later how these can still be used. You will only need one for the firecracker. After you have pulled the missiles out, turn the empty piece over above a bag. Make sure all the little rocks fall into the bag. Then, proceed to disassemble the box. Save one tube and the fuse. Cut about a three inch length off the fuse, and insert the three inch fuse into the hole in the tube. Have it stick about half an inch out the other side and tape the short side in place.
Now, grab the rocks you dumped out, and use a funnel to pour it into the tube. Use a light to check how full the tube is. If it is at least 75% full, take a missile and put it in with the cone facing out. If it is less than that, insert it with the cone facing into the tube. Shove it in as far as possible, and tape it there. Now, tape the whole thing up, but be careful to not cover the fuse. Make sure that the bottom end of the cardboard tube is taped up well.
It is now complete. Here is a picture of it in action:
